About Redact PDF
Redact PDF is for permanently hiding sensitive information before a document is shared. Use it for account numbers, addresses, phone numbers, IDs, signatures, personal data, internal notes, and confidential terms that should not be visible to the receiver. Redaction is different from placing a black box over text. A simple shape may only cover the visible page while the original text remains searchable or copyable underneath. A proper redaction workflow removes or flattens the sensitive area so it cannot be recovered from the shared file. After redacting, search the PDF for the hidden words, try selecting the area, and check all pages. Keep an unredacted original separately for your records.
Updated June 2026: Added privacy-focused redaction guidance for removing sensitive information, metadata risks, visual covering mistakes, and review workflows.
